IRAPP Presents GIS Workshop for Local Government and Planning Officials

by admin last modified 2006-10-25 14:46

On Friday February 24th, 2006, Morehead State University’s Institute for Regional Analysis and Public Policy, in conjunction with the Kentucky Center for Geospatial Education, Research, and Outreach and the U.S. Small Business Administration hosted a Geographic Information Systems training workshop at the UK Regional Technology Center in West Liberty.

Geographic Information Systems can be used in many different types of projects, including those in the areas of public safety and disaster planning, health and human services, property assessment, environmental assessment, and planning and zoning. A Geographic Information System uses computer software to display several different types of useful information on a map. The major advantage of using GIS is that data specific to your planning goals can be retrieved in various combinations, filtering out any unrelated data.

The training session was presented by IRAPP faculty members Dr. Steven Parkansky, Dr. Timothy Hare, and Kevin Calhoun.
