CONSTITUTION

I. Purposes. The purposes of the Kentucky Political Science Association are as follows:

To advance knowledge and understanding of political science in Kentucky.
To strengthen the political science profession in Kentucky and to improve communications among both teachers and practitioners in the profession.
To sponsor an annual meeting of those interested in political science.

II. Membership. Membership in the Association is open to the following persons:

Teachers of political science in Kentucky colleges and universities.
Students of political science in Kentucky colleges and universities.
All others Kentuckians who are interested in political science and who show an interest in participating in meetings and activities of the Association.

III. Dues. The annual dues for the first category of members -- colleges and university teachers -- shall be determined by the Executive Committee. Dues payment shall not be required of students and others who take part in Association activities. The annual dues will normally be collected at the time of registration by those attending the annual meeting, but teachers desiring to become dues-paying members may forward dues to the Executive Secretary without attending the meeting. Voting in business meetings will be limited to dues-paying members.

IV. Officers. The following officers shall be chosen:

President. The President shall preside at the meetings and shall assume responsibility for planning the annual meeting, delegating authority where necessary. He shall be responsible for other activities of the Association and for appointing committees to assist in the work.
Vice President. The Vice President shall assume the President's duties if he is absent or resigns and shall assume any other responsibilities delegated by the President.
Executive Secretary. The Executive Secretary shall prepare minutes of the annual business meeting and keep a permanent record of such meetings. Election is by the membership, at annual meeting, for a three-year term. The Executive Secretary shall act as a custodian for the Kentucky Political Science Occasional Papers series. The Executive Secretary shall be responsible for keeping financial records, receiving dues, and paying bills. He shall report to the annual meeting and shall report to the President on request. Payments shall be authorized by the President and the Executive Secretary jointly. These three officers and the immediate past president shall form an Executive Committee, to be consulted by the President whenever necessary between meetings of the Association membership.

V. Selection of Officers. The President, with the advice of the Executive Committee, shall select a nominating committee prior to the annual meeting. The nominating committee shall recommend to the annual meeting candidates for the offices to be elected. The annual meeting will elect a President and a Vice President, to serve one-year terms beginning at the conclusion of the meeting, an Executive Secretary, to serve a three-year term.

VI. Annual Meeting. The Association shall hold an annual meeting, at a site to be determined by the membership unless the members delegate the selection to the Executive Committee.

VII. Amendments. Amendments to this Constitution shall be adopted by a majority of members present and voting at the annual meeting after members have been notified of the proposed amendments prior to the meeting.
