Associate Professor of Geography
Steven Parkansky, 1999 recipient of a Ph.D. in Geography from State University New York at Buffalo, was hired by Morehead State University as assistant professor of Geography in 1997. He joined the Institute for Regional Analysis and Public Policy (IRAPP) in 2000. Parkansky was awarded a 2001 Kentucky Housing Corporation Grant to conduct, in conjunction with other university personnel, the study “A Survey of Rural Homelessness in Kentucky.” He has presented study findings at numerous conferences in venues as far-reaching as California.
Parkansky also serves as Cartographic Editor of the Atlas of Appalachia, an electronic educational resource with extensive information on the Appalachian region. He has promoted the Atlas through participation in and presentations to conferences and meetings in Ohio, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Parkansky’s public service activities include serving on the Advisory Committee on Public Health Information for the Kentucky Department of Public Health.
