Dr. David R. Rudy, Professor of Sociology and Dean of the Institute for Regional Analysis and Public Policy at Morehead State University, earned the Ph. D. in sociology at Syracuse University. Author of Becoming Alcoholic: Alcoholics Anonymous and the Reality of Alcoholism (1986, Southern Illinois University Press) and co-editor (with Jim Orcutt) of Drugs, Alcohol, and Social Problems (forthcoming 2003, Rowan and Littlefield), Rudy’s current research interests include regional program development, policy analysis, alcohol-related social movements, and drinking behavior.
Professor Rudy’s prior work has appeared in Sociological Analysis, Sociological Inquiry, Qualitative Sociology, Sociology and Social Welfare, The Journal of Studies on Alcohol and several anthologies. A member of the Board of Directors of the Society for the Study of Social Problems and former chair of MSU’s department of Sociology, Social Work, and Criminology, Rudy has resided in Morehead for 20 years with his wife, Mary.
