David Campbell
Center for Virtual Appalachia (CVA) Director and Web Manager for IRAPP
David Campbell is the Center for Virtual Appalachia (CVA)Director and Web Manager for IRAPP. He is a graduate of Morehead State University, where he completed a BS in Geology in 1996. He attended graduate school at the University of Kentucky and continued work towards his MS in Geology until 1999, at which point he co-founded Smoothstone Systems, Inc. Started primarily as a web design firm, Smoothstone quickly evolved into an educational multimedia firm, as well. David worked with publishing firm Houghton-Mifflin on several college textbook e-learning projects, and spearheaded development of a global web-based learning system for Glaxo-Smith-Kline. He also worked with British Petroleum in conjunction with Region 4 EPA on development of a web-based training system. In 2004, he left Smoothstone and relocated back to his home town of West Liberty, Kentucky, where he started a new web development firm, design53. In addition to the web design and computer repair, David also began teaching basic computer education classes at the UK Regional Technology Center in West Liberty, and partnered with Maysville Community College to offer a 4-week course on Starting an Online Business. David began work at MSU in July 2005 and will primarily be building and maintaining the CVA and IRAPP websites.
